Garganta del Fraile (Friar’s Gorge)

Viewpoints Picnic area

This viewpoint is located to the east of Serradilla and at the foot of the Garganta del Fraile, a spectacular quartzite gorge that has been furrowed by a permanent stream of pure water.

In its vicinity there are interesting traditional constructions like mills, water channels and stone bridges, built mainly of slate, as well as several picnic areas, parking and a fountain.

This permanently cool spot invites one to relax to the sound of the waterfall that gives the area its name. It can be accessed on foot or by vehicle along the Garganta del Fraile Route, and is a spectacular point for bird watching, specifically species at home in rocky mountains like the Benelli’s eagle, Egyptian vulture, rock thrush, black wheatear and the large colony of griffon vultures that inhabit this gorge.
